In the fall semester, first graders study the concept of connections. Every teacher that works with the students designs curriculum through the lens of connection. We have weekly iBlocks, which are two hour periods where every teacher in the grade is available to team teach. Last week, I planned an iBlock that had the goal to introduce the students to tools that can help them strengthen their existing connections. I taught a section about using book recommendations to strengthen connection with friends and the books you are recommending. We had two other sections about using music to strengthen your connection to a story and using non-fiction books to connect to the class tree and find out more information about it.

Right now in library class, we are looking at the connections between libraries. What are connections between the school library, classroom library, public library and other school libraries. We started by created a kidspiration web on what school libraries need to have. This week we are using iPads and an app called pic collage to take photos of the essential parts of a library.

I am hoping to use skitch with them next to label those pictures.
